Fellowships

IBRO-APRC Exchange Fellowship

The IBRO-APRC Exchange Fellowship aims to allow high-quality junior scientists at the level of postdoctoral fellow or junior faculty (under the age of 45) from diverse geographic and scientific areas to broaden the scope of their training in neuroscience by working 4–6 months abroad in established laboratories. Senior PhD students with a good publication record and strong justification for the exchange program will also be considered. Both the applicant and the host laboratory have to be within the Asia Pacific Region.

Selection criteria include academic credentials of the applicant and the host, as well as the quality of the research proposal with a structured research plan. Priority will be given to applicants from less developed and less well-funded countries. Strong justification must be made by the applicant that he/she will return to their home country after the exchange, bringing with them new knowledge and skills to advance neuroscience in their home countries. A firm commitment from his/her parent institution to this effect will be viewed favorably by the selection committee.

Funding of up to US$8,500 is available in principle to cover each 4-6-month fellowship. The award may vary depending on the country the successful candidate studies in. The sum is used along with matching funds from the host laboratory to defray the cost of travel and to subsidize living costs.

Applications are to be made on-line only once per year. There are no hard copies of the forms available. The applications will be selected by IBRO-APRC members.

A BRIEF NOTE ON ENTERING DATA IN THE FORMS

You can prepare your text in MS Word. However, you cannot simply copy-and-paste it into the forms. MS Word creates (hidden) formatting codes that cannot be displayed in the on-line forms. These hidden codes have to be removed from MS Word file. There are two ways to do it:

1. Copy your text into Notepad and from Notepad, paste the text into the form (preferred way). To copy and paste, mark the original text and use control-C to copy. Place the cursor in the form and use control-V to paste the text.
2. Or use the filter (icon eraser + W) in the Editor to clean the text of MS Word formatting. You may need to remove empty lines.

New data are saved by clicking on "Insert" button. (For all subsequent entries, use "Update"). This will also open the next form in the step.
In areas where multiple entries are allowed, there will be a button "Add New". Once finished with entries, use "Continue". If there are no entries, use "Cancel".
Applications will be available on-line for editing until the deadline date - Midnight, EST (Eastern Standard Time, Montreal time).
